Welcome to "Honmamon".
At the eastern edge of the world, Japan.
In this small island nation, a unique culture has been nurtured over a long period. Japan, which is long and narrow, experiences "four seasons", with deeper, more delicate, and diverse forms arising from changes in temperature and humidity.
We hope you enjoy this seasonal transition at "Honmamon".
In May in Kyoto, it is the Aoi Matsuri Festival at Kamigamo Shrine, said to be the oldest festival in Japan.
The main deity of Kamigamo Shrine is the god of water, who governs rain and rivers, inviting the water necessary for rice planting. For May in Kyoto, we have prepared a selection of wagashi that evokes the early summer.
In Uji, Kyoto, the rich light and warmth of spring promote the growth of tea leaves, producing delicious new tea. High-quality Japanese tea is carefully harvested by hand from the tea leaves, a scene that is a part of Japan's seasonal beauty and has been turned into song.
Enjoy the fresh greenery with tea and sweets. Additionally, during this season, the "Kakitsubata" flower blooms.
The folding screen by the national treasure Korin Ogata features eight bridges, which inspired the representative sweet of Kyoto, Yatsuhashi. We bring you the refreshing breeze and beautiful greenery of May from Kyoto.
